Request made by Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura and General Hospital Mannar to overcome blood deficiency of their Blood Banks, with the guidance of General Officer Commanding 54 Division Major General Indrajith Bandara RWP RSP USP ndu, two blood donation campaigns were conducted at Headquarter 54 Division and Headquarter 7 VIR on 14 June 2020 with the approval of directorate of Medical Service by fulfilling the request.
These programmes were organized according to government stipulated COVID 19 preventive measures and 124 Officers and Other Ranks of 54 Division Headquarter, under command Brigades and Units donated their blood during the programme conducted in Div HQ and 56 Officers/ Other Ranks of 543 Brigade Headquarter and under command Units donated their blood during the programme conducted in 7 VIR.
Around 180 troops representing all under command formations of 54 Division voluntarily made their contribution to donate blood in order to fulfill the low stock of blood at Mannar Hospital.
A medical team from General Hospital Mannar together with the medical staff of Main Dressing Station, 54 Division conducted this pogramme successfully.
