NEWLY RECRUITED 259 SOLDIERS COMPLETED THEIR BASIC MILITARY TRAINING SUCCESSFULLY

After completing the basic recruit training for a period of six months at Recruit Training School – Vedithalthivu, under Course No 12, a group of 259 brave sons of motherland were passed out on 28 December 2019.

These soldiers were enlisted to Gajaba and Commando Regiments. The ceremony was coloured with a parade displayed by passing out soldiers at the parade ground of Recruit Training School – Vedithalthivu.

Parents together with relations of these soldiers and number of invitees for the event were much amused by a colourful Physical Training, Taekwondo, Drill and Band Displays exhibited during this grand ceremony.

Based on the performances of trainees, Rifleman Chandrarathne DMSI was awarded as the Best Section Commander while Section – 02 was emerged as the Best Section of the course. After number of firing sessions, Recruit Thilakarathne HMAAS was awarded as the Best Firer and being a great challenge for all trainees Recruit Madhusanka AJKR became the Fittest Soldier. Finally, the trunheon and trophy for all round best soldier of Course No 12 was presented to Recruit Premawansha TGML.

As well as, Lieutenant BKRM Bogahapitiya from Sri Lanka General Service Corps was awarded as the best Platoon Commander and Sergeant Pushpa Kumara was awarded as the Best Section Sergeant while Gunner Jayapala JRDP was opted as the Best Physical Training Instructor of the course.

Gracing the event as the chief guest, General Officer Commanding 54 Division Brigadier DSD Welikala WWV RWP RSP USP presented certificates and awards for trainees who performed best during their course.

As another important segment of this event, each passing out soldier was given a valuable sapling on account of speeding up the tree planting campaign launched under the theme of “Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak” headed by Sri Lanka Army.

Senior Officers, Officers and large number of Other Ranks of Headquarters 54 Division and Recruit Training School – Vedithalthivu were present at the occasion.
