The Director Culinary Arts and Promotions of Mount Lavinia Hotel renowned Chef Dr Publis Silva conducted a three day workshop for military cuisiners working in all establishments under Security Force (Wanni) from 25 to 27 October 2019 at the premises of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni).
As a constructive approach towards training soldiers in all aspects and with the special objectives of preparing food with standard, delicious and healthy for all troops under Security Force (Wanni), the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc initiated in organising this training programme. The Commander 212 Brigade Colonel Anil Peiris RSP USP psc through his personal affiliation coordinated the veteran chef Dr Publis Silva to train Army cuisiners in various methods of cuisine by using indigenous ingredients such as species for preparing a nutritious and tasty meal.
The first day of the training session was mainly focus to educate the trainees on the value of using indigenous food items and number of ways which could be adopted to prepare a delicious meal with full of nutrition. After a brief lecture, Dr Chef Publis Silva demonstrated of preparing some food items and then supervised the trainees to follow him using some techniques of cuisine which he used to prepare a dish of curries.
242 Army cuisiners representing 21, 54, 56, 61, 62 Divisions, Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) together with affiliated battalions to Headquarters Security Force (Wanni), Special Forces Brigade and 3 Commando Regiment participated in this training session actively and enthusiastically. Troops participated in this programme paid their gratefulness towards the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc for giving them such valuable opportunity which they could not ever be taken to train under this well-known chef. In same they express their sincere gratitude to Dr Chef Publis Silva for making them aware on various types of cooking styles and the value of indigenous food items.
At the end of the training session, all the trainees had to appear in a practical test which was examined by a judge board headed by Dr Chef Publis Silva. The workshop was come to the end by awarding of certificates for trainees those who completed the training successfully.
Addressing the gathering at the closing ceremony, Dr Chef Publis Silva thanked Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena for guiding his troops to organise this invaluable workshop and he requested to provide opportunities for Army chefs to train under him in future.
The certificate awarding ceremony was graced by the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc as the chief guest.
General Officers Commanding of all Divisions, Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Administration and Quartering of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Senior Officers, Officers and number of Other Ranks too were present at the occasion.
