Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) under the guidance of Commander Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc contributed for a great charity along with some well-known Sri Lankans, veteran singer Mr Sunil Edirisinghe, former Cricketer Mr Thilakarathne Dilshan, and Mr Anura Eliyapura from ‘Jathika Urumayan Surakeeme Maha Sammelanaya’, to construct a Pagoda at Thiruwegama Sri Bodhirukkharama Temple and renovate the village tank in Alagalla, Irattaperiyakulam.
Laying of the foundation stone to construct the Pagoda and commencing the renovation of the tank was auspiciously taken place on 20 August 2019 at this interior village with the presence of veteran singer Mr Sunil Edirisinghe, former Cricketer Mr Thilakarathne Dilshan, and Mr Anura Eliyapura from ‘Jathika Urumayan Surakeeme Maha Sammelanaya’ who finance to launch this charitable project.
A pagoda for this remote temple was a long felt need for number of devotees who pay their homage by visiting daily to the temple and it resulted to project the necessity of a Pagoda by the Chief Incumbent of Thiruwegam Sri Bodhirukkharama Temple. Considering respectfully the request made by the Chief Incumbent thero, Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) with the directions of Commander Security Force (Wanni) promptly coordinated this charitable organisation to sponsor the project for constructing a Pagoda. Renovation of the village tank will be another added social welfare activity launched coincides with the construction project and it will also be sponsored by this philanthropic organisation.
The ceremony of laying the foundation stone to construct the Pagoda and commencing the renovation of the tank was graced by General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Major General Kumar Jayapathirane RSP on behalf of representing the Commander Security Force (Wanni).
Veteran singer Mr Sunil Edirisinghe, former Cricketer Mr Thilakarathne Dilshan, and Mr Anura Eliyapura along with some members representing ‘Jathika Urumayan Surakeeme Maha Sammelanaya together with main sponsor for the meritorious events in ‘Was Season’ (the retreating period of monks) Mr Oliver Gunathilaka and his family were present at the occasion.
Representing Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), the Civil Affairs Officer Lieutenant Colonel Lal Kithsiri, Civil Affairs Officer of Headquarters 211 Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Chaminda Dissanayake, senior officers, officers along with some other ranks, large number of devotees in Alagalla and Irattaperiyakulam areas too made the presence for this charitable event.
