POSON CELEBRATIONS IN SECURITY FORCE (WANNI)

On directions of Commander Security Force (Wanni), Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, troops under Security Force (Wanni) organized two Poson Zones at Sri Bodhi Dhakshinaramaya Vavuniya and Sri DhaladhaViharaya, Madukanda with the patronage of Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Muwaetagama Anandhabidhana and Ven Siyambalagaswewa Ananda theros. 21 and 56 Divisions under Security Force (Wanni) organised both events with the support of District Secretariat Office Vavuniya.

The event also seized the opportunity to move towards reconciliatory efforts of Security Force Wanni by getting all other religious groups too involved in organizing.

Both programmes commenced with Sil campaigns held at both temples with over 1000 devotees obtaining Sil. Thousands of devotees who gathered were provided with alms by the Army. The event at Sri DhaladhaViharaya was more significant as it was with a ‘Aluth Sahal Mangalaya ceramony (the ceremony of offering the first harvest) and a “Abhaya Dhana” programme (releasing cows about to slaughter).

Display of Vesak lanterns was launched in front of Sri Bodhi Dhakshinarama Temple by Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) Major General Rasika Karunathilake psc. Number of under command formations to Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) exhibited colourful Vesak lanterns depicting true features of Buddhism.

General Officer Commanding 56 Division, Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya ndu psc along with Divisional Secretary – Vavuniya Mr. I M Hanifa graced the occasion as Guests of Honour.

Attention of the audience was stolen by the “Bhathi Gee” recital program in which two groups of school children from the Muslim Vidyalaya Vavuniya and the Kovilkulam Tamil Vidyalaya Vavuniya sang Buddhist songs in Sinhala language while groups from the Army, Air Force, Police and Civil Security Defence Force joined them too.

Poson Kalapaya at Sri Bodhidhakshinaramaya Temple was organised by 21 Division under supervision of General Officer Commanding, Major General Kumar Jayapathirana RSP, while the Poson Kalapaya at Sri Dhaladha Viharaya Madukanda was organised by 56 Division on directions of General Officer Commanding, Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya ndu psc.
