A top - level coordinating conference was conducted at District Secretariat Officer Mannar on 02 May 2019 in order to make aware the government officials through assessing the security arrangements due to the prevailing tense situation in the country.
The conference was headed by District Secretary Mannar Mr Mohon Ras along with General Officer Commanding 54 Division Brigadier WGHAS Bandara RWP RSP ndu.
On an invitation made by the District Secretary Mannar, General Officer Commanding 54 Division Brigadier WGHAS Bandara RWP RSP ndu conducted a comprehensive briefing on prevailing security situation of the country. The gathering was made aware through a presentation conducted by the Lt Col BM Jayaweera psc SLSC regarding the future threats and the precautions that should be taken as civil society to counter the emerging threats of extremists.
The discussion was focused to pay through attention mainly for the security of schools and religious places. Some Principles brought out their views on security concerns of schools when commencing the next school term. General Officer Commanding 54 Division stated that he will be able to provide the possible assistance to ensure the security in Mannar area.
Reverend clergies representing all religions, Commanders of 541 and 542 Brigades, Senior Officers of Headquarters 54 Division, Representative from Sri Lanka Navy, Superintendent of Police – Mannar Mr HSW Peiris, Divisional Secretaries, Principals of schools in Mannar administrative division, representatives from educational department and other officials from District Secretariat Office were present at the conference.
