The Cultural Hall – Vavuniya occupied by the Armed Forces to maintain peace in the area was fully renovated by the Sri Lanka Army and handed over to the District Secretary Vavuniya on 30 April 2019 for public patronizing.
Vavuniya Cultural Hall was occupied by the Armed Forces to maintain peace and harmony in the area. The building was in a state of disuse for a long period of time rendering it to dilapidation. As the building is vital to organising cultural events and ceremonies to bring together Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities living in Wanni region for reconciliation, Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) under Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu renovated the building with provisions of Rs. 10 million.
Renovations of the building commenced on 27 August 2017 and was carried out by troops of Engineers Services under the supervision of Officer Commanding of 22 Engineers Services Squadron Major W C Deshapriya under the guidance of his Commanding Officer Lt Col H B C Mahendra.
During a simple ceremony, the fully renovated Cultural Hall was handed over to District Secretary – Vavuniya Mr I M Haneefa by Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu.
The District Secretary Vavuniya Mr I M Hanifa, Divisional Secretary Vavuniya Mr K Udayarasa, Senior Officers of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni), Officials from District Secretariat Office Vavuniya and some representatives of Government institutions were present at the occasion.
