26 Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry successfully completed battalion training at Infantry Battalion Training School at Pampemadhu. Under the careful supervision of General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP, the training programme was conducted from 07 January 2019 to 06 March 2019 with the participation of 10 Officers and 307 Other Ranks.
General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP highlighted the importance of training by conducting the opening address at the commencement of the training in order to mould a strategic soldier in contemporary military framework.
Training package was based on empowering soldiers on theoretical and practical knowledge on military subjects. Apart from the major training package, some valuable lectures were conducted by Chief Inspector Kebithigollawa Police Station Keerthi Jayantha and Warrant Officer I (Rtd) Waduge Piyarathne under the directions of Commander 612 Brigade Colonel SWB Welagedara RSP USP.
It was significant to organise a Dhamma sermon on leadership and personal behaviour conducted by Rev Kagama Sirinanda thero with the respectful invitation made by the General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP.
Another major event during the Battalion Training package was a book launching. The masterpiece named ‘Upadeshaka Athwela’ drafted by the Commanding Officer of 26 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry was launched under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP. This book will be a great assistance for trainees and trainers to enhance their knowledge on subject matters.
As outstanding figures during the training, Lance Corporal Amarasinghe DGSM was awarded as the best Physically Fit student and Private Kumara RBSM was opted as the Best All Round Other Ranker. Captain GHR Gamachchi was awarded as the Best All Round Officer while the D Company was emerged as the Best Company during the Battalion Training.
During the training period, volleyball and cricket tournaments were taken place to enhance the sports skills and organising capabilities of trainees.
The Closing Ceremony and Awarding of Certificates was organised at the Battalion Training School Pampemadhu with presence of General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP as the chief guest.
The Commanding Officer of 26 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Senior Officers of the Battalion and Training School were too present at the occasion.
