The annual Mahashivarathri Festival was celebrated on 04 March 2019 at historic Thiraketheswaran Kovil in Mannar.
In response to a request of the kovil committee and with the direction of General officer Commanding 54 Division, Brigadier Senarath Bandara, troops Under Command to 54 Division organized few events to make the festival success. Firstly, troops cleaned the Kovil premise in a shramadana campaign on 01 March 2019. In addition, 30 ‹ 100 ft parabolic hut was erected at the premises, which wan Provided by Security Force Headquarters (Wanni).
In the Mean time, Troops Organized a “Tea Dansala” with the Sponsorship of HQ 54 Division and under command Brigades and Battalions, which was benefited over 5000 devotees. Anpart form that Frist Aid room and 3 public drinking water points were established for the benefit of the Mass gathering.
Over 400,000 devotees were gathered in the poojas arranged from 0800 am on 04 March to 1200 pm on 05 March to receive the divine blessings, and the festival came to an end after last pooja at 1200 pm on 05 March 2019.
