A WORKSHOP MENTAL HEALTH IN PREVENTING SUICIDE RATES IN THE ARMY

As an initiative taken by the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, to make aware troops on mental health under minimising of the rate of attempting suicide and to optimise the quality of work life, troops of 61 Division organised a mental health awareness workshop on 16 October 2018 at the Division Headquarters.

A counselling team of Directorate of Prevention Medicine and Mental Health headed by Dr Nissanka Gunarathne a visiting lecture of University of Peradeniya together with Lieutenant Colonel Sarath Ariyarathne NCC conducted this invaluable lecture session.

The workshop was mainly based on the rate of attempting suicides, committing suicides, stress management, good marital life, prevention from drugs and the way of enhancing the quality of work life.

Over 300 Other Ranks representing Headquarters 61 Division and its all under command formations enthusiastically participated in the workshop organised throughout the day under the directions of the Commander 611 Brigade Colonel L D S SLiyanage RSP USP psc Hdmc and the supervision of General Officer Commanding of 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP.
