Troops of 61 Division celebrated the 69thArmy Anniversary Day in a customary way at the Division Headquarters on 10 October 2018 with the presence of General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP as the Chief Guest.
During a formal ceremony, Flag hoisting was taken place and then the message of Commander of the Army was presented.
There after the day’s chief guest gathered in a tree planting programme and over 150 herbs including Sanjeewani, Mahahadaya, Iru Raja, Wanaraja, Pranajeewa, Heen Araththa, Wana Araththa, Malitha, Tharana, Radaliya, Kalu Aththana as well as some valuable rare saplings were planted at the Headquarters premises of 61 Division.
Later on, the newly constructed accommodation billet for civil servants was declared open at auspicious time with the presence of General Officer Commanding of 61 Division and civil employees working in the Division Headquarters
Under the celebrations to mark the 69 Army Anniversary, 61 Division was able to conduct series of events such as Blood Donation, Sharmadana at Madhu Church, Flag March etc.and this series of celebrations were culminated with a Bodi Puja to invoke blessings for all ranks in Headquarters of 61 Division and all under command formations.
