As an initiative taken by the Commander Security Force (Wanni), Major General KumuduPerera RWP RSP USP VSV ndu a special mass was organized on 31 May 2018 at Jumma MasjidhMosque in Vavuniya to celebrate Ramadhan that fasting month observed by Muslims in Sri Lanka, in view of Ramadan festival on15 June 2018.
As Chief Guests of the Day’s event, the Commander Security Force (Wanni), Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP VSV ndu together with General Secretary in Vavuniya Mr. Somarathna Vidhanapathirana joined Islamic members in Vavuniya area to mark the commencement of sacred Ramadan fast.
Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad.
The celebration was marked as the first time Ramadhan celebration in Wanni area that all communities were made presence to Jumma Masjidh Mosque in Vavuniya. Addressing the gathering by the Commander Security Force (Wanni) stated that the importance of organizing such kind of religious activities to build up the coexistence among all religious and ethnic groups in Wanni region. Further, he emphasized that Sri Lanka Army as Guardians of the Nation is always keeping up with virtuous rapport between Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu and Islamic religious communities in creating a morally developed society in Sri Lanka.
More than 400 Islamic devotees prayed in joining together with Islamic military personals and they all were blessed by Rev. M C Amir Mavulavi and other religious priests gathered in the sacred mass.
This sacred mass was come to the end with a tea session organized by troops of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni)
