SECURITY FORCE HEADQUARTERS (WANNI) ORGANIZES RELIGEOUS EVENT AT RUWANWELI STHUPA

Security Force Headquarters Wanni was awarded a rare golden opportunity by two gentlemen imbued with Buddhist pious, Mr. Chamath Abeygunawardhana and Mr. Maheel Mahaduruge, to organize a two day religious event of great significance at the premises of the most revered “Ruwanveli Seya”. General Officer Commanding 21 Division Major General Ruwan Silva USP ndu IG and troops under command to him worked tirelessly in organizing the event very successfully under the directions of Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu.

The event commenced early morning on 05 May with morning Alms served at the most revered “Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi” to over 750 monks and over 4500 civilians and continued until the serving of noon alms on 06 May with Sil campaigns and Dharma sermons. Between the two alms giving’s there were many other connected religious activities arranges in nearby temples. The entire religious event was cantered on the completion of whitewashing the “Ruwanweli Maha Seya” organized, sponsored and carried out by the two noble Buddhist devotees Mr. Chamath Abeygunawardhana and Mr. Maheel Mahaduruge.

Troops of 24 Sri Lanka Light Infantry contributed by preparing meals for 750 Maha Sangha and 22 Gajaba Regiment prepared meals for 4500 devotees. Troops of 2 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 5 Sri Lanka National Guard distributed meals for Maha Sangha and devotees who observed Sil during 04, 05 and 06 May. Officers and Other Ranks of 7 (V) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and 9 (V) Engineers Services Regiment provided infrastructure / logistical support. All arrangements were supervised by Brigade Commanders of 211 and 213 Brigades.

Colonel AQ 21 Division Colonel Marleen Fernando, Civil Affairs Officer Security Force HQ Wanni Lieutenant Colonel Upul Bandara, Civil Affairs Officer 21 Division Lieutenant Colonel Ravindra Kohomban, the Commanding Officer of 7 (V) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Lieutenant Colonel N R L Gunasena psc, the Commanding Officer of 24 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Major H M M P Herath RSP, the Commanding Officer of 22 Gajaba Regiment Major M P Samarasekara RWP RSP, the Commanding Officer of 2 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major G R K S Sahajeewa RSP, the Commanding Officer of 9 (V) Engineers Services Regiment Major N Wanigasingha Lsc,the Commanding Officer of 2(V) Women’s Corps Major ALRP Amarasinghe SLSC and the Commanding Officer of 5 Sri Lanka National Guard Major L R T B P Bandara worked tirelessly and diligently to arrange the event extremely successfully to the satisfaction and praise of all attended.

The two-day programme culminated with all night Pirith chanting on 06th night and a Boddhi Pooja with the participation of Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu together with Senior Officers, Officers and large number of Other Ranks.
