21 Division and its all under command formations joined hands with Ministry of Women’s and Chilled Affairs and Youth Association - Anuradhapura to organise “Buddagaya Vesak Kalapaya” during 29, 30 April and 01 May 2018 in Anuradhapura under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding 21 Division Major General W R P De Silva USP ndu IG.
The Buddagaya Vesak Zone was decorated with many Vesak lanterns, Vesak Dansels and Bhakti Gee recital programs where a massive crowd gathered to witness the splendour of the evening.
Sri Lanka Army together with several public organisations exhibited 35 colourful Vesak lanterns which added much colour to the Vesak Zone during three days.
The final day of the Vesak Zone, all Vesak lanterns were evaluated by an eminent panel of judges and the creation by 9 Sri Lanka Engineers Services Regiment was awarded the winner while 2 Sri Lanka Engineers Services Regiment and Regimental Headquarters Gajaba Regiment obtained second and third places respectively.
The first place was rewarded with a Rs. 100,000.00 cash prize and first fifteen were awarded with valuable prizes.
In addition, troops under 21 Division lighted 400 lanterns around Ruwanweliseya temple premises to be witnessed by thousands of devotees gathered in this sacred area.
Senior Officers, Officers, large number of Other Ranks and thousands of civilians too were participated in this noble festive session.
