SECURITY FORCE HEADQUARTERS (WANNI) CELEBRATES VESAK WITH “SANHINDIYAVE VESAK KALAPAYA”

Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) organized the “Sanhindiyave Vesak Kalapaya”during 29, 30 April and 01 May 2018 conceptualized by Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu as a major leap forward towards reconciliation. This was the first ever Vesak Zone organized in Vavuniya in such a large scale.

“Rata Rakina Jathiye” Vesak event was well organized by the Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) with District Secretariat Office Vavuniya coordinating other civil organizations. The “Wanni Vesak Kalapaya” was the second step after the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, to strengthen relations between all communities in Wanni region.

Vesak program commenced with a Sil campaign held under Ven. Siyambalangaswewa Vimalasara thero with over 1000 lay and military devotees obtaining sil at the Sri Bodhi Dhakshinarama Temple, Vavuniya on 29 April 2018. In the evening,Vesak lanterns display commenced by switching on the first lantern by Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu along with Divisional Secretary – Vavuniya Mr. Somarathna Vidhanapathirana. Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police and the Civil Defencce Force exhibited colourful Vesak lanterns depicting true features of Buddhism.

The Vesak Zone was filled with a massive crowd that stormed to witness the splendour of the evening and partake in the Dansela organized by troops of Security Force (Wanni) that provided dinner to over 5000 people.

During the evening, prominence was stolen by the “Bhathi Gee” recital program in which two groups of school children from the Muslim Vidyalaya and the Hindu Vidyalaya sang Buddhist songs in Sinhala language and the group from the Army sang Buddhist songs in Tamil language.

The Commander Security Force (Wanni) graced the first day of the session as the chief guest whilst Senior Officers, Officers and large number of Other Ranks too were representing this noble festive session.
