The Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu assumed duties as the 8th Colonel of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) during a formal ceremony at the MIR Headquarter premises in Halmillawewa, Dambulla on 27 March 2018.
A Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour with several Infantry Carrying Vehicles (ICVs) and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) were presented by MIR troops in conformity with true military pomp and ceremonial splendourto the newly-appointed Colonel of the Regiment after his arrival at the premises.
The newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment placed his signature ona formal document after lighting the traditional oil lamp amidst religious observances symbolizing the authority of the new office. Later, the new Colonel of the Regiment, together with the Centre Commandant, Brigade Commander, Senior Officers and a few others conducted an inspection visit in the camp premises and also inspected the fleet of Infantry Carrying Vehicles (ICVs) and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) of the MIR.
Addressing the troops and officers, the newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment stated that he would uphold the dignity of the Regiment as one of them and stand up for the sake of the Regiment. Further, he emphasized that he would consider his obligation to look into the welfare of men in the Regiment as well as the members who are not serving with the Regiment at present.
An all rank tea party followed by a troop address brought the day's ceremony to an end.
Brigadier Sumith Atapattu, Military Spokesman and Director Media at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier Dammika Jayasundera, Brigade Commander, 532 Brigade, Colonel Sujith Balachandra, Brigade Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Colonel Udaya Herath, Centre Commandant, MIR and several Senior Officers of the MIR attended the events.
