Directorate of IT conducted an awareness programme on impact of social media on instructions and guidance of the Commander of the Army on 19 March 2018 at Security Force Headquarters Wanni premises.
Over 700 Officers and Other Ranks from all under command formations gathered for the discussion which was conducted by Colonel Information Technology in Directorate of Information Technology Colonel D N U Jayarathne USP.
Participants were educated on maintaining their privacy in Face Book, Viber, WhatsApp, etc. In addition, they were apprised of the adverse impact of posting statements propagating hatred, sharing sensitive security information and uploading unauthorised photos. Further, the session also covered the legal implications against military personnel who are bounded by both civil and military law when engaging in unacceptable activities through social media.
