56 DIVISION MARKED THE SINHALA AND HINDU NEW YEAR WITH A TRADITIONAL NEW YEAR FESTIVE SESSION
The Sinhala and Hindu New Year made its presence at the playground of V/Bogaswewa Maha Vidyalaya on 24 April 2017. Both Officers, Soldiers and residents of Bogaswewa and other resettled villages got together to mark the event.\r\n \r\nThe event was organized according to the directions of the Commander Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) Major General J R Kulatunga RSP ndc psc.\r\n\r\nThe number of traditional and fun-making games such as Bicycle race, Marathon, pillow-fights, grease pole climbing, selection of prince and the little princes of the New Year, eye-placing on the Elephant, tug-of-war and fancy dress parade dominated the day’s proceedings to the much amusement of all onlookers and they enjoyed the events in the New Year festival which added more excitement.\r\n\r\nThe General Officer Commanding 56 Division Brigadier T J Nanayakkara RWP USP ndu, graced the occasion as the chief guest while The Brigade Commanders of 561, 563 Brigades, Senior officers, Officers, Other Ranks, distinguished members of civil authorities large number of villagers were present at the occasion.\r\n\r\nAt the end of the festival, The General Officer Commanding 56 Division Brigadier T J Nanayakkara RWP USP ndu, and several Senior Officers gathered to give away gifts to the winners in different events and competitions. The Nestle Lanka PLC gave the sponsorship for the entire event. The joyful day was culminated with a musical night coloured by famous Ranaviru Real Star vocalists by staging with the Army Band.
