PROMOTED RELIGIOUS RECONCILIATION AND PEACE AMONG ALL COMMUNITIES, BY ORGANIZING A SINHALA AND HINDU NEW YEAR FESTIVAL AT MANNAR
With the intention of promoting religious reconciliation and peace among all communities, 54 Division organized a Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival at Thiruketheeswaran tank premises, Mannar on 24 April 2016 under the guidance of Major General WDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding - 54 Division.rnrnMany traditional and fun games included in the festival like pot cracking, pillow fighting, tug of war, cart race, cycle race, cadjan - weaving, climbing grease tree, fancy dress, selection of Avurudu Kumari, etc. rnrnMajor General MHSB Perera RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Commander - Secutiry Forces, Wanni graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. General Officer Commanding, Brigade Commanders, State Officers, Senior Officers of other services , Other Ranks and civilians from Mannar area took part in the event. Finally, Chief Guest presented the prizes for winners of Army and civilians who took part and won the events of the festival.rn
