621 Brigade celebrated its fourth anniversary on 1st December 2014. Though it celebrated its 4th anniversary, 621 Bde history can be traced back to 1983.Brigade has started in the present location as an engineer detachment to assist new settlement and to provide security to Welioya area and in 1984 it has re-named as Coord HQ - Welioya. Thereafter, it has become the 6 Brigade in 1990
and 223 Brigade in 27 July 1997.
The Brigade has a significant history and contributed immensely to eradicate terrorism in Sri Lanka. The Brigade had repulse many terrorist attacks in Welioya and brigade HQ itself by killing more than 500 terrorists in year 1995 along. The Brigade became a coordinating centre and main administrative base for operations because of its strategic position neighbouring 4 districts namely Anuradhapura, Vauniyawa, Trincomalee and Mulathive. It lies along the main supply route towards Jaffna through Mulative and Nadunkerny.
After renaming Brigade as 621 Brigade in 30 November 2010, Brigade is involved actively in resettlement and nation building other than providing security to the area. Brigade assisted to resettled 2011 families in former border villages such as Gajabapura, Monarawewa, Kalyanipura, Ehatugaswewa, Ethawetunuwewa and Nikawewa Right.
Fourth Anniversary program consisted of Guard turnout to the Brigade Commander Colonel I H M N N Herath USP psc, Troop address, all ranks lunch, distribution of foot bicycles to civils and alms giving to Buddangala temple.
