RESETTLED PEOPLE AT BOGASWEWA CELEBRATED NEW YEAR FESTIVAL
The natives of Bogaswewa to function who were displaced due to thirty years of long drawn conflict started to return and resettle as the peace began to surface in Sri Lanka subsequent to total military defeat of the LTTE. The ‘Bak Maha Ulela’ aimed at fostering unity and peace among the above villagers was organized by the 563 Brigade of 56 Division of the Sri Lanka Army, held at Bogaswewa on Friday 10, May 2013. After 30 years of suffering, people at Bogaswewa liberally enjoyed the BakMahaUlela that organized in line with New Year festival.The festival began with hoisting of the National Flag and lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), Major General M H S B Perera RWP RSP ndupsc as the chief guest.The festival consisted of over 25 events including traditional games, AvuruduKumari contest and Tug of War competitions.The BakMahaUlela was followed by a grand musical show performed by an Army band for villagers’ entertainment. An estimated, 2000 local villagers trooped to the Bogaswewa temple premises on 10 May despite the hot weather to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year – BakMahaUlela 2013. The Deputy Chief Sanga Nayaka for Northern Province, Saddarmakeerthi Sri Sumana Siddartha Ven. Atambagaskada Kalyanathisayabidhana Nayaka Thero, General Officer Commanding of 56 Division, Brigadier D A R Ranawaka RSP IG, Commander 563 Brigade, Brigadier A A I J Bandara, Chief Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party for Vavuniya District, MrSumathipala, also attended the BakMahaUlela.
