61 Division Organizes New Year Festival for Wanni Villagers
In view of promoting goodwill and reconciliation among the soldiers and the civilians, 61 Division under the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ – (W)) organized a Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival at 61 Division play ground on Saturday (06).
Traditional events such as Cadjan Weaving, Eye Spotting, Fancy Dress, Tug-of-War, Marathon, Cross Country Race and selecting New Year Queen and Prince drew much attraction of the villagers as well as soldiers.
General Officer Commanding 61 Division, Brigadier D.M.W.W.W.M.R.B.M Daulagala organized the event with the close collaboration of the villagers in the area.
The New Year festival was followed by a musical show witnessed by more than 1000 civilians. Security Force Commander (Wanni), Major General Boniface Perera graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
