In parallel with the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme, in collaboration with the “Wild Tuskers” organization, under the full supervision of Brigadier B A M P Balasooriya RSP, Commander of the 212 Infantry Brigade, a programme to remove invasive plants such as Agadan and Japanese Jabara, which obstruct the lifestyle of elephants at the Kala Wewa tank bund, has been scheduled for 2025.09.05, 06, and 07.
Accordingly, on 2025.09.05 from 0900 hrs to 1300 hrs, invasive plants covering approximately 10 acres in the Kala Wewa area near Kalagama, Anuradhapura, were removed. The remaining clearance is scheduled to be carried out at the Balalu Wewa lake bund on 2025.09.06 and 07.
For this purpose, personnel from 7 Sri Lanka Armed Regiment , 1 Gajaba Regiment, 4 Sri Lanka National Guard, along with the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, the Mahaweli Authority, the Department of Irrigation, other government and private institutions, civil organizations, and local civilians took part.
