Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) welcomed the Disabled War Hero, Corporal Gemunu Karunarathna of 6 Battalion of Gajaba Regiment who has undertaken the wheelchair journey, ‘Perseverance’ to cover 576 km and reach Point Pedro when he reached Security Force (Wanni) Area of Responsibility on his 7th day of the expedition at around 1400 hours on 09 December 2018.
Troops under Security Force (Wanni) initially welcomed Corporal Gemunu Karunarathna at the entrance of 8 Field Engineers Squadron in Boo Oya with a rousing welcome of applause. The Brigadier Administration and Quartering of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) Brigadier Ranjan Premalal USP was there on behalf of the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu in supporting his untiring journey.
Thereafter, the Colonel General Staff of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) Colonel Anil Peiris RSP USP together with large number of Officers and Other Ranks gathered in front of the main entrance of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) to encourage this Disabled War Hero.
Corporal Gemunu Karunarathna was offered with a maximum support by General Officer Commanding of 56 Division Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya ndu psc and the Commander 561 Brigade Colonel A S P Silva RWP RSP at Omanthai and in front of the entrance of the Headquarters - 561 Brigade respectively.
It was significant scenery that hundreds of civilians were enthusiastically awaited either side of A9 road for this Disabled War Hero’s arrival to Wanni area and a warm reception was also hosted by civilians throughout his journey in Wanni area.
Corporal Gemunu Karunarathna passed the Wanni area amid blessings of the Commander Security Froce (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu along with all Officers and Other Ranks under Security Force (Wanni).
