“Sanhindiyave Vesak Kalapaya” organized by Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) along with District Secretariat Office - Vavuniya was concluded successfully on 01 May 2018.
This Vesak Zone was conceptualized by Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu as a major leap forward towards reconciliation through strengthening relations between all communities in Wanni region. This was the first ever Vesak Zone organized in Vavuniya in such a large scale.
“Sil campaigns, Dansels and Bakthi Gee programmes” were held during 29, 30 April and 01 May and the Vesak lantern competition commenced on 01 May 2018. Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police and the Civil Defence Force exhibited colourful Vesak lanterns depicting true features of Buddhism.According to the eminent Judge Panel headed by Head - Faculty of Education in Pali and Buddhist University, Ven. Professor, Dhammarakkhitha thero, the first place was awarded to 611 Brigade while second and third places were secured by Civil Engineering Squadron of Pandukabhaya Naval Camp and 561 Brigade respectively.Awarding of Free Air Tickets to Varanasi, India by the Sri Lankan Airlines for First to Fifth places winners was a significant event.
The closing ceremony of “Sanhinidhiyawe Vesak Kalapaya” was graced by Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu as the chief guest together with Divisional Secretary – Vavuniya Mr. SomarathnaVidhanapathirana.
Senior Officers of Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police along with representatives of Civil Defence Force and several public institutes and thousands of civilians in Wanni region gathered in the final day of the Vesak Zone.
