TROOPS OF 61 DVISION RENOVATED VAIRAWA MUNDIMURUPPU TANK IN KALMADU IN A COMBINE EFFORT WITH CIVILIANS

Troops of 25 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry together with civilians in Pumbukulam village were able to renovate the damaged bund of Vairawa Mundimuruppu tank and reduce the leakage of water overflowed during last two days from a large whole created at the centre of tank bund due to the adverse weather condition prevailed in the area.

Renovations of the tank bund were launched under the directions of Commander 611 Brigade Colonel L S D D Liyanage RSP USP psc Hdmc and with the supervision of Commander 61 Division Brigadier K D C J G Thilakarathne RWP RSP.

The General Officer Commanding 61 Division coordinated the relevant government officials to construct the tank bund on 18 October 2018. District Secretary Vavuniya Mr Mohommed Hanifa, Additional District Secretary Mr Thiresh Kumar and many government officials along with Army Officers visited to inspect the on-going construction work of the tank bund.

District Secretary Vavuniya together with military officials took prompt actions to accelerate the renovations and mitigate the disastrous situation which could be occurred in the area. Troops were able to safe guard the villagers and their properties in down side areas of the Tank because of the instantaneous actions taken by the military.
