TROOPS OF 59 INFANTRY DIVISION ENGAGE IN FLOOD RELIEF OPERATIONS

Due to ongoing heavy rainfall across the country, the four spill gates of the MuthiyankattuKulam Reservoir were opened on 27 November 2024, resulting in severe flooding in Wasanthipuram village. This inundation affected 72 families, displacing 129 individuals.

With the direction of Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc,Commander Security Force (Wanni) and under the guidance of Major General D R N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP,the General Officer Commanding of 59 Infantry Division and with the supervision of the Commander 593 Infantry Brigade, Army troops promptly relocated the displaced families to Mannakandal Mixed School in Mullaitivu ensuring their safety and providing immediate relief.

Army troops successfully rescued a Forest Department caretaker, his wife, and their 9-month old infant and the two workers belong to construction company who were trapped in Kulamurippu area.
