Troops of 561 Infantry Brigade Swiftly Respond to Flash Flood at Nedunkerny Hospital

Troops of the 561 Infantry Brigade promptly responded to a sudden flash flood that affected Nedunkerny Hospital within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) on 03 April 2026 at approximately 1730 hours, following heavy rainfall in the area.

On the instructions of the Commander, 561 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier E G C Gunasena RWP RSP psc and under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division, Major General S A U A Solangaarachchi RSP ndc psc, a dedicated relief team comprising 1 officer and 8 soldiers from ‘C’ Company of the 16 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment was immediately deployed to manage the situation.

Working in close coordination with hospital authorities, the troops carried out immediate flood response measures, including clearing water logged areas, placing sandbags, cleaning affected premises and assisting hospital staff in restoring normal operations.

Their swift and effective response minimized disruption to hospital services and ensured the safety of medical staff, patients and property. The Brigade timely intervention once again demonstrated the Sri Lanka Army’s unwavering commitment to supporting civil authorities and safeguarding the well being of the public during natural disasters.
