TROOPS OF 2 MIR AND 5 SLNG ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY DURING ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITION

Due to current adverse weather condition effect to the country, Iramiyankulam tank bund located at the Kristhowakulam village in Cheddikulam, was damage under the pressure of the heavy water flow. As a result, flood water threatened to the village of Adhiyapuliyankulam, a risk to the homes and farmland of the local resident. The Commanding Officer and troops from the 2 Mechanize Infantry Regiment work to temporary repair the tank bund by using sandbags to mitigate the disaster situation on 27 November 2024.

Further, troops of 5 Sri Lanka National Guard Regiment placed sand bags around vulnerable areas of Mahawilachchiya tank bund that were at risk of breaching due to rising water levels. Hundreds of families living in the area Wilachchiya village praised their timely intervention and expressed gratitude for the life-saving efforts.

This timely and prompt action were taken under the direction of Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc, Commander Security Force (Wanni) and with the guidance of General Officer Commanding 21 Infantry Division Major General WMSCK Wanasinghe RSP USP with closed supervision of Commander 213 Infantry Brigade.
