In a commendable act of bravery and teamwork, troops from the 10thBattalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry (10 SLLI) and Navy personnel from SLNS Buwaneka joined forces on 27 November 2024 to rescue a family stranded by severe flooding in Sivapuram, Palinagar. Under the direction of Major General J P C Peiris RWP RSP ndc Commander Security Force (Wanni) and with the guidance of Major General Nishantha Muthumala USP psc, General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division, and the supervision of Brigadier Dilantha Fernando USP Hdmc psc, Commander of the 561 Infantry Brigade, this humanitarian operation was a shining example of inter-service collaboration. Lieutenant Colonel Krishantha Hewapatahage RWP RSP USP, Commanding Officer of 10 SLLI, coordinated the mission alongside Navy personnel, ensuring seamless execution amidst challenging conditions.
Triggered by relentless rainfall, the floods had trapped the family, cutting off access to vital resources and communication. Responding promptly to a distress call, the combined team of soldiers and sailors navigated dangerous currents and adverse weather to reach the affected household. Their efforts were marked by strategic precision and selfless determination, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives.
