SRI LANKA ARMY STRENGTHENS HUMANITARIAN OUTREACH IN THE WANNI REGION

In line with the vision of the Commander Security Forces (Wanni), Major General K M P S B Kulathunga RSP ndu psc, and under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division, Major General K N D Karunapala RSP ndu, the Sri Lanka Army further strengthened its commitment to community welfare and humanitarian service in the Wanni region through the conduct of a special Eye Clinic Programme on 02 October 2025.

Organized in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, the programme extended vital medical assistance to 364 underprivileged civilians suffering from visual impairments. Participants received essential eye check-ups, consultations, and guidance on preventive eye care, with a focus on identifying treatable conditions and improving overall eye health.

The initiative, supervised by the Commander 561 Infantry Brigade and actively supported by troops of the 16th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, stands as a reflection of the Army’s unwavering dedication to uplifting rural communities.

This humanitarian endeavour highlights the Army’s enduring role not only as the protector of national security but also as a compassionate force committed to advancing social well-being and improving the quality of life across the Wanni.
