In a significant humanitarian initiative driven by the vision of the Commander of the Army and under the direction of the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) and the Commander 56 Infantry Division, the Sri Lanka Army extended its unwavering support to rural communities in the Wanni region. This donation spearheaded by the Judge Advocate General, Brigadier R D O Pathiranage and his family, this comprehensive programme delivered transformative aid to the villagers of Uyilankulam and Thenniyankulam on 5 September 2025.
The cornerstone of this effort was the donation of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification plant, a vital asset that provides pure drinking water free of charge to approximately 300 families who have historically been paid for this most basic necessity, thereby alleviating a long-standing hardship and ensuring a sustainable, healthier future.
Complementing this major infrastructure donation, the programme also focused on providing for the most vulnerable with a deeply compassionate gesture. Fifty prepared packs were distributed to pregnant mothers in the area who are nearing their delivery dates. Each pack contained a comprehensive set of essential goods and supplies required for the care and well-being of a newborn child.
This wide-reaching programme, meticulously coordinated under the close supervision of the Commander 561 Infantry Brigade and executed through the hard work and dedication of the troops from the 10th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, culminated in a communal lunch. This event provided a nutritious meal to 650 villagers, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and solidarity between the Army and the civilians it serves.
