SOCIAL WELFARE ACTIVITIES IN RESETTLED AREAS

A newly constructed Shrine Room in V/Roshan Mahanama Primary School in Veherathannna was vested with the school children and the public for veneration on 20 August 2017 by the Chief Incumbent of “Sri Wajirarama Temple Bambalapitiya”, Ven. Thirikunamalaye Ananda thero with the participation of members of “Sri Wajirarama Sasana Sevika Sangamaya” who funded it in totality. This meritorious donation was coordinated by Mr. Lakshman Mahanama, the secretary of Sri Wajirarama Temple, Bambalapitiya.\r\nIt is important to mention that this Primary School and the Pre-school located in the same premises are a generous gift by former veteran cricketer Mr. Roshan Mahanama through his personal finances. Currently, many well-wishers have come forward to support the school with the intention of enhancing the facilities for students and to uplift the standard of the school. As a result a Tube Well was constructed with the funding by Candila Aid PLC and a stock of valuable books was donated to the library by Mr. Rajitha Fernando.\r\nMost respected Thero and the philanthropic donors made an arduous journey to reach these remote areas devoting their valuable time with the sole intention of spreading their benevolence to these needy and deserving poverty struck villagers. Their generous gesture was assisted by troops of 26 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment under the supervision of the Commander 623 Brigade and General Officer Commanding 62 Division by undertaking the construction work.\r\nCulminating the days’ events a newly constructed house was handed over for occupancy to the hapless family of Mr. Henry Ganegoda and a large quantity of dry rations were distributed to the residents of Bogaswewa and Veherathenna villages. The house costing Rs. 900,000.00 was donated by Mr. Kelum Sujith while the dry rations were sponsored by Mrs. Yoga Wijeweera. The construction of the house was done by 19 Gajaba Regiment under the careful supervision of Commander 563 Brigade and General Officer Commanding 56 Division.\r\nThe event was graced by veteran cricketer Mr. Roshan Mahanama and Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP ndu as distinguished guests and General Officer Commanding 62 Division, Commanders of 563 and 623 Brigades, Senior Officers, Officers and number of villagers in nearby areas were in attendance.
