In view of promoting goodwill and reconciliation among the soldiers and the civilians, 56 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ – (W)) organized a Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival at 56 Division play ground at Kokeliya on 17th April 2013.
Traditional events such as Climbing of Grease tree, Cadjan Weaving, Eye Spotting, Fancy Dress, Tug-of-War, Marathon, Bicycle Race, Musical Chairs and selecting New Year Queen drew much attraction of the villagers as well as soldiers.
General Officer Commanding 56 Division, Brigadier DARRanawaka RSP IG organized the event with the close collaboration of the villagers in the area.
The New Year festival was followed by a musical show witnessed by more than 2000 civilians. Brigadier (AQ) - SF HQ (W), Brigadier AKP Wickremasinghe USPgraced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
