The annual Sinhala and Hindu New Year celebration, which has traditionally been conducted by Security Force (Wanni), was conducted this year too on a grand scale on Thursday (06) at Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) camp premises under the guidance of Commander, Security Force (Wanni) Major General Champaka Ranasinghe RWP RSP.
This New Year celebration comprised of a traditional and rural games. The cross country race, Climbing the Grease Tree, Pillow Fighting, Tug of War, Fancy dress competition, Selecting the New Year beauty queen and prince were the highlighted the events.
The ceremony premises had been gaily decorated and in order to commemorate the traditional customs and rituals, village head master’s residence (Arachchila Walawwa), rural house (Gami Gedara), the market (Kadamandiya) had been beautifully constructed with the traditional events native to those places.
The Offers and Other Ranks representing Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), 21, 54, 56, 62 and 65 Infantry Divisions, Forward Maintenance Area (NC), Infantry Brigades and Battalions representing various regiments took part in the events of this New Year festival. The organizers had made arrangements to award very attractive prizes to the winners.
As the chief guest Commander, Security Force (Wanni) Major General Champaka Ranasinghe RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding of Infantry Divisions, Commander - Forward Maintenance Area (NC) and Commanders of Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks of Security Force (Wanni) and their families witnessed this Wanni New Year festival.
