SECURITY FORCE WANNI PLANTS 1000 TREES

Security Force Wanni commemorating World Environmental day conducted a mega tree planting campaign. General Officer Commanding 54 Division Major General Senarath Bandara RWP RSP ndu personally directed his troops to arrange the event on 05 June 2019 at Sinap Nagar and other deforested areas close to Wilpattu National Park.

Commander Security Force (Wanni), Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, attended the event as the Chief Guest where he joined residents in the area, members of the Army and Government Officials to plant over 1000 trees.

As Guardians of the Nation, the Sri Lanka Army, launched the “Thuruliya Venuven Api” Island wide tree planting campaign conceptualized by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake RWP RSP VSV USP USACGSC Continuing and taking the concept to a different level Security Force Wanni initiated a project to reforest the deforested jungle area surrounding Wilpattu National Park. The project was symbolically launched to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the war victory by planting 6000 trees.

Security Force Wanni has been planting trees in the area of responsibility for a considerable period of time. Up to now over hundred thousand (100,000) trees have been planted. The biggest event was the planting of 45,000 saplings on 10th of April symbolically launching the event in the premises of Holy Madu Shrine by Commander of the Army, Bishop of Mannar and the Guardian Reverend of the Church while the campaign was conducted in the entire area.

Divisional Secretary Mannar Mr K S Wasantha Kumar, Commander 542 Brigade Colonel IHMRK Herath, Senior Officers, Officers of Headquarters 54 Division and under command formations, Government Officials, students and parents were present at the event.
