Coincided with the 74th Anniversary of Sri Lanka Army, Commander Security Force (Wanni), Major General W P A D W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, initiated the project of planting 100,000 coconut sapling in Security Force (Wanni) area of responsibility aiming the second coconut triangle to the North. Thereby all three districts covering the Wanni area of responsibility Anuradhapura, Vavuniya and Mannar were chosen for this project.
The main aim of this program was to boost the economy of low income community living in area of Security force (Wanni). The Inauguration ceremony was held at Pampeimadu, Vavuniya on 12 October 2023 with the participation of Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Dinesh Nanayakkara, Vavuniya District Secretary Mr. PA Sarathchandra, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) Major General Arosh Rajapaksa, Director Tropocoir Lanka (Pvt). Ltd, Mr. Tharindu Dunuwila, Regional Manager People's Bank Anuradhapura Mr. Dhanawala Withana, Deputy Manager Manusath Derana Mr. HM Harshana Chaturanga and a group of dignitaries including school children and local residents of the area participated in the symbolic coconut sapling planting program. The media coverage was provided by “MANUSATH DERANA” and a awareness program was conducted by the Tropocoir Lanka (Pvt) Ltd to educate local residents and school children regarding coconut products.
This event was arranged by the General Officer Commanding 56 Infantry Division, Major General H G P M Kariyawasam RSP ndu psc IG and it’s under command Brigade 562 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier TMST Tennakoon RSP.
Moreover in line with the inaugurated ceremony all other under Divisions and Brigades of in Security Force Headquarter (Wanni) also involved with this coconut sapling planting project at their responsibility areas which included 21 Infantry Division covering the Anuradhapura district, 54 Infantry Division covering the entire Mannar District & 56 Infantry Division in Vavuniya district.
