Security Force Headquarters Wanni, being deployed in mainly rural, difficult and under privileged areas had launched a campaign to lay a solid foundation for the education of the future generation in such needy villages. The concept introduced to the area by Commander Security Force Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, is to construct preschools in needy areas in partnership with the Local Government authority and Private Sector sponsorship. The idea was conceived on observing one of the greatest and one of the most worthy CSR projects in the country implemented by the Hemas Outreach Foundation. Hemas Outreach Foundation working along with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Children setup Preschools Island wide as their CRS based on the fundamentals of Early Childhood Development. The Hemas Outreach Foundation has already constructed over 50 such Preschools Island wide already named as “Piyawara”.
Having firsthand experience of the difficulties faced by the villagers, Commander Security Force Wanni, Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, sought the assistance of Hemas Outreach Foundation, which came forward very willingly and almost voluntarily. With the generous sponsorship of Hemas Outreach Foundation, Security Force Headquarters Wanni has already constructed and vested with the villages 7 such Preschools educating over 350 children between the ages of 3 – 5 years every year.
As a continuation of the concept, on a request by Divisional Secretary Vavuniya South Mr M S Janaka made to the Security Forces HQ Wanni, the foundation stone was laid for another ‘Piyawara’ preschool sponsored by Hemas Outreach Foundation. There are many children in this area without proper preschool facilities and the proposed preschool will now serve 4 villages in Alagalla area.
The construction will be done by 21 Infantry Division under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding Brigadier Kumar Jayapathirana RSP and this will be the 8th preschool built in Wanni area by Hemas Outreach Foundation.
