As another giant step in continuing the project of ‘Thuruliya Wenuwen Api’ reforestation programme at Wilpattu National Park conceptualized by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General N U M M W Senanayake RWP RSP VSV USP USACGSC, troops under Security Force Wanni with the direction of Commander Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu launched a mega tree planting drive on 15 June 2019.
Over 8000 Kumbuk saplings and 500 other valuable plants were donated to plant at boundaries of conserved areas of Wilpattu National Park, Villaththaikulam and Veppal forest areas. In order to facilitate for this mega tree planting drive, 100 cement bags, 600 Feet of PVC pipes, 10 water barrels and Rs. 50000.00 cash check were donated too.
All these donations were made by the Faculty of Agricultural Science in University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, Naththandiya Dhammissara Collage, Associated Motorways Company, Youth of Hope environment organisation along with a group of veteran popular actors and actresses, Mr Saranga Disasekara, Ms. Shanudi Priyasadh and Mrs. Dulika Marapana.
Under the project of reforestation in Wilpattu National Park and suburb conserved forest areas, the Commander Security Force Headquarters Wanni has planned to plant 45,000 trees. Currently 21 Acres of land have been utilized to plant trees.
The mega event was organised by the Commander 542 Brigade Colonel Ravi Herath with the guidance of General Officer Commanding of 54 Division Major General Senarath Bandara RWP RSP ndu.
Students of Faculty of Agricultural Science in University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, the Principal, teachers along with students and members of Old Boys Association of Naththandiya Dhammissara Collage, representatives of Associated Motorways Company, members of Youth of Hope environment organisation along with Mr Saranga Disasekara, Ms. Shanudi Priyasadh and Mrs. Dulika Marapana, Senior Officer of Headquarters 54 Division and large number of Other Ranks were made their presence for the occasion
