Security Force Wanni organized an Iftar ceremony on 30 May 2019 to coincide with the annual Ramadan festival as part of promoting reconciliation as well as to maintain unity among communities in the area. This is the second such event organized with the Vavuniya Jumma Masjith Mosque since 2018. Both events originated as an initiative of Commander Security Force (Wanni), Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP VSV ndu.
Over 500 Islamic devotees indulged in prayers whilst military personnel along with Hindu and Catholic community too attended.
Holy Quran was recited by Rev. M C Amir Mavulavi and other religious priests gathered in the mass. Addressing the gathering the Guest Speaker, Rev. Mohammad Rishad Ravahi, stated that organizing such events will build up unity among all religious and ethnic groups in Wanni, especiallyafter the tense situation that prevailed in the country.
Commander Security Force (Wanni), Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP USP VSV ndu too made his presence to celebrate the Ramadan fast as the Chief Guest. General Officers Commanding 21, 61, 62 Divisions, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North Central), Senior Officers of Air Force and Police were present at the occasion.
The mass came to an end after breaking the fast for the day organized by 56 Division. The Muslim community paid their sincere gratitude emphasizing that Sri Lanka Army is always the Guardians of the Nation keeping all communities united.
