In keeping the view conceptualised by the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu to uplift sports skills, comradeship, courage and discipline among military personnel under Security Force (Wanni), troops under 61 Division organised the Inter Division Basketball Tournament - 2018 on 03 August 2018 at 61 Division Basketball court.
Competitions were held from 31 July to 03 August 2018 representing teams of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), 21,54,56,61, 62 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) and all matches were organised under the guidance of the Commander 612 Brigade Colonel M K Jayawardhana RSP USP and the supervision of General Officer Commanding of 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathna RWP RSP.
During a competitive battle held between 61 and 21 Divisions, the team of 61 Division emerged as Champions while 21 Division was obtained the trophy for Runners Up in Inter Division Basketball Tournament – 2018.
Lance Corporal De Silva H L P K of 61 Division was awarded as the Best Shooter in year’s tournament.
The General Officer Commanding of 56 Division Brigadier D A P N Dematanpitiya ndu psc graced the closing ceremony and awarding of prizes as the Chief Guest while the General Officer Commanding of 61 Division Brigadier K D C G J Thilakarathne RWP RSP gathered too in giving away trophies to the winners.
Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers and large number of Other Ranks were present at the closing ceremony of Inter Division Basketball Tournament – 2018.
