Children’s Day celebration was organized by Security Force Headquarters – Wanni, along with the ITN Network at Mahaweli Grounds, Sampathnuwara on 30 September 2018. The event under the theme of ‘Hadhena Rataka – Wadena Lamai’, is a continuation of campaigns launched by the Security Force – Wanni on reconciliation.
Over 2500 students from 42 schools in Welioya, Mullativu, Anuradhapura and Pulmudai Divisional Secretariat areas gathered forthe programme. The event comprised of Buddhist, Hindu and Islamic religious activities, traditional dancing eventsand cultural shows. These events were vividly organized to augment amusement for every child to make their day.
In view of ascertaining and enhancing the artistic dexterity of students having minimum facilities in far-off areas, ITN organized a paintings and visual art competition with the representation of hundreds of students.
The Day’s celebration was more significant to children as they were presented with valuable gift packs after being participating in various competitions and events organised by Ceylon Biscuits Limited, Nestle Lanka PLC and Commercial Bank.
Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu participated as the Chief Guest for the day after providing assistance to organize the programme. General Officer Commanding 62 Division Brigadier L A N S Wanigasinghe RWP RSP USP directed his troops to organise this event in a grand manner. Setting up of the event was planned and coordinated by Commander 623 Brigade, Colonel Prasanna Gunarathne RSP USP psc IG.
Additional District Secretary Anuradhapura Mr. Keerthi Gamage, District Secretary Welioya Mr Deepal Thirimanna, Chief Executive Officer of ITN Mr Chandana Thilakarathna, General Officer Commanding 61 Division Brigadier K D C J G Thilakarathne RWP RSP, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) Brigadier H Kulathunga, Principal Staff Officers of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) and 62 Division, Divisional and Zonal Education Directors Senior Officers from under command formations to Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Officials of ITN, Ceylon Biscuits Limited, Nestle Lanka PLC and Commercial Bank, teachers along with students of schools in Padhavi, Sri Pura, Sampath Nuwara, Pulmadai, Mulativu and large number of civilians in Welioya Divisional Secretariat gathered in Mahaweli ground Sampath Nuwara for Children’s Day celebrations – 2018.
