Security Force Headquarters – Wanni under the directions of the Commander Major General Kumudu Perera RWP RSP VSV USP ndu initiated in conducting special Hindu religious observances based on 12 Kovils located in areas belong to 21, 54, 56, 61 and 62 Divisions on account of celebrating Maha Shiva Rathri day on 04 March 2019.
As the initial celebrations, 561 Brigade organized a Pooja to invoke of blessings for all communities living in Wanni region. The event was organized under the guidance of Commander 561 Brigade Colonel Shyamal Silva RWP RSP and with the supervision of General Officer Commanding 56 Division Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya ndu psc. The main objective of organizing the event was to foster and strengthen the process of reconciliation.
All observances were held at Nagathambiran Hindu Kovil with the presence of large crowds of Hindu devotees paying the highest respect their belief and large gathering of Army personals. The chief prelate of Nagathambiran Kovil Sathyaraja Lakshmikanandan conducted the special observances to bless the devotees.
The General Officer Commanding 56 Division Major General Prabath Dematanpitiya ndu psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The Commander of 561 Brigade Colonel Shyamal Silva RWP RSP, Senior Officers, Officers representing Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Headquarters 56 Division and 561 Brigade and a large crowd of Hindus devotees in Vavuniya area were present at the occasion.
