THE SECOND PHASE OF “BUDO” SELF DEFENCE MARTIAL ART COURSE CONCLUDES WITH GREAT SUCCESS

As a concept initiated by the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc in wake of moulding soldiers under Security Force (Wanni) for any exigent circumstance, the second phase of self defence martial art course was concluded successfully with a splendid closing ceremony organised on 24 September 2019 at the Headquarters premises of Security Force (Wanni).

The second phase of self defence martial art course named “Kiyoshiru Budo” was commenced on 05 September 2019 and launched until 24 September 2019.

The course is basically designed to train soldiers when they have to confront a situation causing multiple effects for their personal safety and impeding their prime duty. In same, this course was a great impact for soldiers to maintain the physical strength and mental stability in any circumstance when accomplishing their routine tasks and special duties.

Martial Art was originated since the origination of human beings for the survival in their groups and among others too. As a result of the development of human minds and skills, the martial art was also gradually developed with sophisticated styles and techniques. ‘Kiyoshiru Budo’ is one such style among 13 martial art styles practiced in modern day. This style was deviated from other martial art styles practiced by ancient veteran martial artists and at present it has basically designed to overwhelm the opponent using numerous fighting techniques.

The course was conducted by a team of well experienced and qualified Army instructors along with one of the veteran martial art instructors in Sri Lanka Renshi Mr Clement De Zoysa (Black Belt - Dan 8) as the chief instructor of the course.

As a constructive approach towards the training, the Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc over 24 Officers and 1000 Other Ranks representing under command formations to Security Force (Wanni) trained at the second phase.

The Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc made his presence for the closing ceremony and the awarding of certificate as the Chief Guest. After the ceremony of certificate awarding, all trainee students displayed their performances during an Exhibition Display and the gathering was much amused by witnessing the performances of trainees.

The series of all training sessions was closely monitored by General Staff Officer II (Training) Major S U B Pilimathalawwe psc under the directions of Brigadier General Staff of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) H P Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndc.

The day’s event was come to the end with a grand musical night organised at the premises of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) in order to enjoy and make the minds relax of trainees after a period of hard training.

General Officers Commanding of 21, 54, 56 and 62 along with Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Staff Officers of Headquarters Security Force (Wanni) and Other Ranks participated in the grand final ceremony.
