RELIEVING FROM ARMY FOR DISTRESSED PEOPLE BY DROUGHT

People face many difficulties in most of the areas of the country due to the existing dry weather condition. Lacking of rainfall at the proper time causes many difficulties for Wanni people to engage with their farming and cultivation. The Sri Lanka Army has planned some relieving programmes in some villages in Wanni region Sampathnuwara, Thissapura, Kahatagollewa, Weherathenna and Monarawewa. A discussion was held on the above mentioned matter with the chief participation of The Commander Security Force (Wanni), Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Competent Authority for resettling Internal Displaced Personal in Northern Province Major General M H S B Perera RWP RSP ndu psc on 9th April 2014 at 62 Division Headquarters. Divisional Secretaries of the areas and senior Army officers were among the participants of the discussion. The commander made a visit on the mentioned villages and inquired about the difficulties of the villages by himself and provided all of them with a meal. Further he advised to keep providing a meal per day for the villagers stating from 09th April 2014 and to provide water by using Army vehicles for a month of period. The relieving programme will be directed with the guidance of General Officer Commanding 62 Division, Brigadier KGD Perera RWP RSP IG.
