The 2025 State Poson Festival was celebrated with great reverence on June 10 at the sacred site of Mihintale, under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency the President. A large number of devout pilgrims gathered at the site to pay their respects, reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual significance of the event.
In the aftermath of the celebrations, and in alignment with the national “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, a comprehensive environmental cleanup campaign was conducted on June 14, 2025. This effort was carried out under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, and was led by troops of the 212 Infantry Brigade.
The program focused on the collection and proper disposal of non-degradable waste accumulated in and around the Mihintale sacred premises, ensuring the site remained clean and dignified. It was conducted on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding, 21 Infantry Division, Major General M W A R C Wijesuriya RSP USP ndc, and under the close supervision of the Commander, 212 Infantry Brigade.
A total Number of 155 Army personnel, including both Officers and Other Ranks, actively participated in the cleanup. Items such as plastic, water bottles, polythene, and discarded clothing were collected and removed during the operation.
This environmentally conscious initiative not only preserved the sanctity of this historical and religious site but also provided a clean, serene atmosphere for pilgrims. It reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to upholding Sri Lanka’s cultural and religious heritage through sustainable and responsible practices.
