People Resettle in New Veheratennagama Hamlet

The new resettlement village, Veheratennagama, founded between Bogaswewa and Parakramapura villages in the 62 Division area under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) was vested in 219 Sinhalese families during a ceremony on Wednesday (20). The project goes parallel to the resettlement of displaced civilians elsewhere in the Wanni, North and the East. More than 2000 families in Bogaswewa area had to flee for life as LTTE terrorist attacks against Sinhalese dominated villages escalated in the past 20 years before the culmination of the war in May 2009. Veheratennagama, this newly demarcated village is to be equipped with a school, bank, pre-school, dispensary, market, playground, water scheme, road network and other infrastructure facilities within a short span of time. Each family thus resettled is to be given two acres of land for agricultural purposes and packets of dry essentials for a period of six months. Major General Boniface Perera, Security Force Commander - Wanni, 56 Division General Officer Commanding, 62 Division General Officer Commanding, senior officers and a large gathering attended the village inaugural ceremony at Veheratennagama.
