NEW SHELTER FOR A NEEDY FAMILY

The compassionate thought of skilled Wanni troops to provide decent shelters to homeless civilians resulted in the construction of new house.

In view of uplifting the social standard and welfare of people in Security Forces (Wanni) area initiated a housing project to provide permanent residence for Mrs. Akilandarshika whose husband has left her and family some time ago. She is living with 6 years old daughter and 4 years old son with many economical constrains at Uilankulam, Thunukkai in 651 Inf Bde AOR.

The project was initiated under the direction of General Officer Commanding of 65 Inf Div Major General KA Samarasiri RWP RSP USP psc and the supervision and coordination of Commander 651 Inf Bde, Brigadier Wasantha Bandara.

The housing project was financially sponsored by Sri Lankan Well Wishers in Adelaide, members of “Wellbeing SA Inc” and Sri Lanka Engineers in South Australia on the personal request of Commander - 651 Infantry Brigade. Troops of 17 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry provided much needed technical and engineering manpower for the construction.

With the simple ceremony handing over the house key to beneficiaries, Mrs. Akilandarshika been awarded by the Major General Anil Samarasiri, General Officer Commanding of 65 Inf Div on 26 May 2022 with the participation of Commander - 651 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, Commanding Officer - 17(V) SLLI, Lieutenant Colonel Nirosha Athurugiri, Senior Officers, family members and the troops who contributed skills for the construction.

During this ceremony few essential furniture items also been handed over to the house holder and school items, sweet packets for the children and lunch packets were been distributed.
