MULTI ETHNIC STUDENTS FROM GAMPOLA CONDUCTED A TWO DAY FRIENDSHIP VISIT TO NEWLY RESETTLED VILLAGERS AT VAVUNIYA

The group of students, teachers and officials from Gampola Education Zone, conducted a two day friendship visit to newly resettled villagers of Avaranthulawa, Nochchimodei in Vavuniya on 31 August 2014. This delegation was consisted with 35 students from Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim ethnic groups, teachers of the school and 13 members of peace promoting committee in Gampola education zone. During two day visit of the area, they conducted a “Shrama Dana Campaign” for cleaning and reconstruction of house and public places at Awaranthulawa. Following day delegation was visited to Nochchamodei Primary School and Lanka Saba Tamil mix school with intention of build up the harmony and mutual trust between students from three ethnic groups and donated gift parcels to host students. Same day evening, delegation was attended two religious activities which organized at Vavuniya Sri Bodirukkarama temple and Vavuniya Hindu temple while developing the religious reconciliation of the North and South students. The itinerary was coordinated by Civil Affairs Officer of 211 Brigade with the guidance and presents of Commander 211 Brigade, Brigadier DT Gamage psc. The zonal director of Gampola Education Zone Mrs. Champika Karunadasa, teachers and large number of students from host schools were also present.
