“Thuruliya Wenuwen Api” reforestation gained more strength from one of the top most famous branded companies in Sri Lankan commercial field, Hemas Lanka PLC in launching another mega tree planting drive to plant over 500 saplings close to Kallaru bridge at Gajasinghapura on 07 July 2019 with the presence of Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc.
Sri Lanka Army in view of creating an eco friendly environment in the country conceptualized this reforestation project and it was later shifted to Wilapttu area since the conserved adjacent forest lands to Wilapttu National Park have rapidly been destructed due to the deforestation. The initial step was to plant 45000 saplings in adjacent conserved forest areas to Wilpattu National Park. Continuing the project under several phases, over 10000 saplings were planted at Marichchakaddi and Sinath Nagar areas.
Hemas Lanka PLC through the Hemas Outreach Foundation provided some sets inherited species to the dry zone such as Mango, Sandalwood, Soursop etc to plant near Kallaru bridge at Gajasinghapura area.
The programme was well organised by the Commander 213 Brigade Colonel K A W S Ratnayake under the direct supervision of General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Major General H P N K Jayapathirane RSP.
The event was graced as the chief guest by Commander Security Force (Wanni) Major General Jagath Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc.
General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Major General H P N K Jayapathirane RSP, Commander 212 Brigade Brigadier M P Lamahewa USP, Commander 211 Brigade Colonel L P K C Wijetunge RWP RSP USP, Commander 213 Brigade Colonel K A W S Ratnayake were the military representation for the occasion while Divisional Secretary Settikulam Mr K Sivakaram and Mr Mindika Thilakarathne along with some Officials representing Hemas Outreach Foundation, Officials of Police and Special Task Force, Principals, teachers along with Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim students of nearby schools, too were made their presence for this mega tree planting campaign.
